Charlie Cox has confirmed that he will appear in an unannounced Sega game, following his voice role as Gustave in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The actor discussed the project at New York Comic Con while speaking with IGN.

The London-born actor is widely recognised for playing New York vigilante Matt Murdock in Daredevil. That performance was convincing enough that the Sega team apparently assumed Cox was American when arranging his recording session.

Cox said the misunderstanding became clear when he arrived at the studio and greeted the team. The character had been written with an American accent, leaving Cox facing around 40 hours of prepared dialogue in a voice he had not expected to use.

A much larger role than Gustave?

The scale of Cox’s recording commitment suggests that his Sega character may be considerably more prominent than Gustave. Cox previously estimated that his Expedition 33 lines took about four hours to record, although writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen later put the figure closer to eight hours. Some fans have discussed that longer estimate in more like eight hours.

No title, release window, platform details or character information have been announced for the Sega project. For now, the confirmed involvement of a high-profile television and game voice performer is the main detail available.

Cox remained modest about Expedition 33

Cox has also spoken about feeling like a “total fraud” after receiving strong praise for his work as Gustave. He was pleased by the success of Sandfall Interactive’s role-playing game, but believed the recognition belonged largely to the wider performance team.

He was nominated for Best Performance at The Game Awards and said motion-capture performer Maxence Cazorla deserved substantial credit. Cox explained that his voice was only one part of the process behind Gustave’s final performance.

The actor’s comments came during New York Comic Con promotion for the third season of Daredevil: Born Again. That season is scheduled to premiere next spring and will be the show’s final season, with Daredevil set to reunite with the other Defenders.
