Dungeons & Dragons and Star Wars are joining forces for a new tabletop role-playing expansion, with Wizards of the Coast sharing its first substantial details at New York Comic Con.
Announced in July, the collaboration is planned for 2027 and will be built around two major releases: a pre-written campaign called Star Wars Tyro Squadron: Adventures and the D&D | Star Wars Core Rules book.

What is included in the Star Wars crossover?
Tyro Squadron: Adventures places players in a secret Rebel crew during the era of the Original Trilogy. Rather than concentrating on Jedi, the campaign appears to focus on less-polished heroes taking dangerous missions against the Empire.
The published description points to daring operations, unexplored parts of the galaxy and a chance for players to influence the Rebellion’s story while Luke and Leia are fighting their own battles elsewhere.
- Adventure: Star Wars Tyro Squadron: Adventures, a ready-to-play campaign.
- Rules: D&D | Star Wars Core Rules, a book intended to adapt the setting for Dungeons & Dragons.
- Release window: both products are scheduled for 2027.

How will blasters and lightsabers work?
Wizards of the Coast has not yet explained the mechanical changes that will bring blasters, lightsabers and other science-fiction elements into a D&D game. More information about the Core Rules book is expected to be shared later.
For tabletop and arcade fans, the crossover is another example of a major entertainment licence being adapted into an interactive format. Readers exploring the wider arcade news and gaming coverage can follow similar developments across the industry.
More Dungeons & Dragons crossovers are coming
The Star Wars project is the second major Dungeons & Dragons crossover announced under the Universes Beyond banner, following D&D: World of Warcraft.
The World of Warcraft release is designed to let players visit familiar zones, explore recognisable dungeons and confront legendary enemies drawn from more than 20 years of the franchise. Alongside its core sourcebook, the release includes an Icecrown Citadel Map Pack with poster-sized maps, tokens and a digital adventure. Those additions are scheduled to arrive on 17 November.

The wider Universes Beyond strategy
Wizards of the Coast introduced Universes Beyond in 2021 as a crossover brand for Magic: The Gathering. It has since included properties such as Warhammer 40,000, Marvel, Final Fantasy, The Lord of the Rings, Dungeons & Dragons and SpongeBob SquarePants.
The approach has divided existing players, with critics arguing that frequent licensed releases make the card game feel more like a broad cross-brand platform and create an expensive, overwhelming stream of new products. However, the commercial performance of the programme has been strong enough that it is unlikely to disappear.
