Jacob Geller, a YouTube critic and video essayist with more than one million subscribers, is no longer part of the video game channel MinnMax after allegations about sexual assault resurfaced online.

The claims first appeared on 30 September in a since-deleted post. The post alleged that Geller had lost a position at the University of North Carolina’s college radio station in 2016 after an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct. The discussion emerged alongside renewed attention to sexual-assault cases involving American universities, including a recently filed civil lawsuit over an alleged rape at Cornell in 2024.

After the allegation spread through social media and the gaming forum ResetEra, users located university records released after UNC was ordered by the North Carolina Supreme Court to release records of students who had breached its sexual-assault policy. The records covered 15 students who attended the university between 2007 and 2020.

A copy held by the Internet Archive appears to list Geller as having violated UNC policies concerning “Sexual Assault or Sexual Violence”. It also records a definite suspension lasting one semester, matching the length described in the earlier online allegation.

MinnMax ends Geller’s involvement

MinnMax initially described the allegations as “deeply upsetting” in a 30 September message shared through its Discord server. The channel said it was discussing what to do next. On 1 October, it confirmed that Geller had been removed from the team.

“Jacob Geller is no longer a part of MinnMax. He won’t be on content moving forward and we won’t be publicly airing this week’s episode of The MinnMax Show. We’re in shock and deeply hurt. Thank you for your patience during this sensitive time.”

The statement was posted on Bluesky. MinnMax did not say whether the unaired episode would be released later.

Podcast Cane and Rinse also responded, confirming it would remove all episodes featuring Geller. The supplied report also noted that Geller was contacted for comment before publication but had not responded at that time.

Geller confirms the university finding

Update, 1 October 2026: Geller later acknowledged the authenticity of the university’s Title IX finding. In a statement, he wrote: “Many of you have seen the results of my college Title IX investigation. I can confirm that the findings are true.”

He said the records had been shared without the alleged victim’s permission and that he would not provide further details that might identify her. Geller stated that she reported the incident to the university’s Title IX office, that he cooperated with the investigation and that he received a one-semester suspension.

“Suffice to say, it is the greatest regret of my life. I traumatized a brilliant person who trusted me, hurt them in a way I can never undo.”

Geller added that for more than a decade he had tried to reckon with his actions, grow and recover from the person he was at the time. He said he thought about the incident every day and apologised for the harm it had caused.

His statement was published alongside a social-media post from Jacob Geller. The case has prompted wider discussion about accountability, archived university records and how media organisations respond when serious historical allegations become public.
