Grand Theft Auto 6 has received an M for Mature rating in the United States, while Australian and New Zealand listings classify the game as R18+. The warnings also provide the clearest official indication yet that sex scenes will appear in the game.

PlayStation and Xbox storefronts in several regions list warnings for blood and gore, intense violence, mature humour, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and the use of drugs and alcohol.

Most of those warnings were also attached to Grand Theft Auto 5, making them unsurprising for Rockstar Games’ next open-world crime title. The notable change appears in the Australian and New Zealand wording: GTA 5 refers to “sexual material”, while GTA 6 specifically uses the phrase “sex scenes”. Both games carry an R18+ classification in those markets.

What the “sex scenes” wording may indicate

The New Zealand warning information for Cyberpunk 2077 also uses the phrase “sex scenes”, prompting comparisons between the two games. However, the classification language alone does not reveal how often the scenes occur, how explicit they are, or how they fit into the story.

In GTA 5, sexual situations are generally brief and comedic. Cyberpunk 2077 takes a different approach, using intimate encounters to develop relationships and character arcs, with some scenes presented from a first-person perspective.

The wording could reflect a more direct depiction in GTA 6, a more intimate context, or simply a closer presentation of adult material. It does not confirm that the game will mirror Cyberpunk 2077 in tone or explicitness.

Material shown so far has established Jason and Lucia as the central criminal partnership. The game may still include the series’ familiar comic treatment of adult situations, including scenes involving a nudist town, naked women twerking while threatening Jason, and nude hillbillies making lewd statements. More serious or intimate moments could also emerge as Jason’s relationship with Lucia develops.

What Australian players can take from the rating

The R18+ classification confirms that the adult content extends well beyond violence. The listed warnings cover sexual content, nudity, strong language, drug and alcohol use, mature humour, blood and gore, and intense violence.

For Australian households, the rating is useful context when deciding whether GTA 6 is appropriate. It also places the game firmly among adult-only open-world releases, rather than suggesting a family-friendly arcade experience. A rating is not a scene-by-scene content guide, so it cannot explain how players encounter the material or how frequently it appears. Those details will remain uncertain until Rockstar releases more information or the game launches.

The immediate takeaway for Australian players is clear: GTA 6 is listed as R18+ and its official warnings explicitly include sex scenes. The adult content will sit alongside the crime, violence and satire associated with the series.
