Pokémon Legends: Z-A launched in 2025 and had sold over 12 million copies by the end of that year. Its Mega Dimension expansion arrived before 2025 concluded, taking players into a distorted version of Lumiose City with new Pokémon to discover.

The new package carries the lengthy official name Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension. For collectors, its key feature is that the base game and expansion will be supplied on a single game card rather than requiring a separate download for the DLC.

What comes with the physical edition?

Nintendo’s bundle includes the complete game and Mega Dimension DLC on one card. Buyers will also receive a code for a Mystery Gift containing 100 Ultra Balls.

The Nintendo Switch 2 edition will remain playable on the original Nintendo Switch. However, when used on the older console, it will offer the same content as the Nintendo Switch version. Features and content that depend on Nintendo Switch 2 hardware specifications will not be available.

The physical bundle will be released on 29 October 2026. Nintendo has not announced a price for the cartridge-based edition.

The digital version of the game and its DLC is listed at US$99.99, so the physical package could potentially be priced at a similar level. That remains speculation until Nintendo confirms Australian pricing and local availability.

Mega Dimension offers plenty to do, but expect a grind

The expansion sends players through an altered Lumiose City and adds new Pokémon, but its progression has divided opinion. The additional content has been criticised for relying heavily on repeated grinding, making its journey feel padded rather than consistently rewarding.

That contrast is worth noting for anyone deciding whether the new bundle is the best way to enter the game. The original Pokémon Legends: Z-A was well received, while the Mega Dimension expansion has drawn a more mixed response because of its slower, grind-focused structure.

A physical option for Pokémon collectors

With both portions of the release included on one card, the Nintendo Switch 2 edition is aimed squarely at players who prefer a boxed copy. It also provides a straightforward way to access the expansion without purchasing the base game and DLC separately.
