Dynamic Duo, the upcoming animated film centred on DC’s Robins, has moved to a later release date. Warner Bros. has also confirmed a notable voice cast, including Steve Buscemi.

Dynamic Duo release date moves to September 2028
The film was originally scheduled to arrive on 30 June 2028. It will now be released on 22 September 2028, making the delay relatively short by film-production standards.
Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is positioning the animated feature as a back-to-school release for teenagers and college audiences. The revised date also avoids a 30 June clash with Paramount’s planned Call of Duty film, while Warner Bros. and Paramount are in the process of merging.
Dynamic Duo is not the only release affected by the scheduling changes. The next Gremlins film has also moved from 2027 into 2028.
The Robin film’s announced cast
The central story follows Dick Grayson, the first Robin, and Jason Todd, the second character to use the identity. The announced cast includes:
- Mason Thames as Dick Grayson, known for How to Train Your Dragon
- Logan Kim as Jason Todd, known for Ghostbusters: Afterlife
- Marsai Martin as Barbara Gordon, known for G20
- Lee Pace as Red Hood 1, known for Pushing Daisies and Guardians of the Galaxy
- Steve Buscemi as Red Hood 2, known for Fargo and Reservoir Dogs
The InSneider also reports that Chris Pine has been offered the part of Bruce Wayne and Batman. His involvement has not been confirmed as part of the announced cast.

Will Dynamic Duo be part of the new DC Universe?
James Gunn has confirmed that Dynamic Duo will not take place within his new DC Universe. The film is therefore expected to function as an Elseworlds project: a standalone interpretation outside the main continuity.
Batman’s place in the new DC Universe remains unsettled. Robert Pattinson’s version does not currently appear to have plans for integration, while Gunn intends to introduce his own Batman in The Brave and the Bold. That project has no firm details at this stage.

A miniature and puppetry-based production
Arthur Mintz is directing Dynamic Duo from a screenplay by Matthew Aldrich, whose credits include Coco and Lightyear. Instead of relying on conventional animation alone, the production will combine miniatures, puppetry, animatronics, physical models and CGI.
That blend of practical techniques and computer-generated imagery gives the project a distinctive production approach, while its focus on two generations of Robin separates it from a standard Batman-led story.
