Capcom has announced a virtual-reality version of Ace Attorney 5, but the news has done little to ease demand for a genuinely new courtroom adventure. The VR release is planned for 2027 on Meta VR Glasses, Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S, Quest Pro and Quest 2.
The project could suit the series well. Investigations rely more on observation, conversation and logic than fast reactions, while a first-person perspective could make courtroom exchanges and evidence searches feel more immediate. Fans, however, were hoping for news of Ace Attorney 7.
Ace Attorney 7 remains unannounced
The last new entry in the main Ace Attorney line was not the only recent release in the franchise. The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve, set in 19th-century London, arrived outside Japan in 2021 alongside the first Great Ace Attorney game. Since then, the series has received ports and collections, but no new cases have been revealed.
That long wait explains the sharp change in mood after Capcom’s VR announcement. One fan described the quickest shift from excitement to disappointment, while another fan on X admitted to reacting before reading the full announcement.
Could a new case still be coming?
The door is not completely closed on further news in 2026. The Game Awards is scheduled for 10 December, giving Capcom another possible stage for a trailer or announcement. That remains speculation, not confirmation.
There is at least evidence that the audience is still substantial. On 20 September, Capcom shared that the 2019 Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy had passed five million copies sold. Capcom’s investor relations sales data lists the franchise at more than 15 million copies overall.
Capcom also marked the series’ 25th anniversary, which falls on 12 October, with a new illustration on X. One hopeful fan asked whether the anniversary would bring another announcement. With that milestone less than three weeks away, fans may not have to wait long for an answer.
For Australian players who enjoy investigative and story-led games, the VR project is an intriguing way to revisit familiar material. It is not, however, a substitute for new testimony, evidence and cross-examinations.
