A forgotten Magic: The Gathering enchantment has become a sudden secondary-market talking point. Words of Worship, an Onslaught rare released in 2002, climbed from a few dollars to more than $10 after players identified a powerful interaction with a new Reality Fracture Commander.

The price movement has been rapid. MTGStocks recorded Words of Worship at $19.95 on 22 September, representing a one-day increase of more than 330%. It reached $31.06 on 23 September. Before that jump, a near-mint TCGplayer sale was recorded at $2.08 on 8 September and another at $7.69 on 19 September.
The card attracting attention is Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel, an alternate-universe legend from the Reality Fracture Multiverse Reforged Commander deck. The six-mana Spirit Dragon allows its controller to pay life when gaining life, then draw that many cards.
That ability gives a previously overlooked white enchantment a very different role. It also gives players a reason to inspect older Magic collections, even if the Rebecca Guay artwork is the first thing that catches the eye.
How Words of Worship Combines with Niv-Mizzet

Words of Worship costs three mana. Its controller can pay one mana to replace their next card draw during that turn with five life instead.
On its own, exchanging a card draw for five life is rarely enough to make Commander players search through their bulk. Niv-Mizzet changes the calculation.
Activate Words of Worship before a card draw. That draw becomes five life, which triggers Niv-Mizzet. The controller can then pay those five life to draw five cards.
As a result, one mana can turn a single incoming card into five cards. That is a considerably better exchange than the enchantment’s original effect suggests.
The interaction reflects a broader Reality Fracture trend: the set has encouraged players to reassess cards that once appeared too awkward for serious play. Its new “any number of copies” card, Sphinx’s Approach, similarly gives renewed relevance to the little-used Sphinx of the Chimes.
Kasmina, Enigma Sage also became a sought-after card after players found a strong new Reality Fracture combo, making Words of Worship the latest older card to benefit from the set’s brewing possibilities.
Why Skirge Familiar Makes the Loop Stronger
The interaction becomes more elaborate with Skirge Familiar, a 28-year-old Imp. Words of Worship can be activated in response to Niv-Mizzet’s five-card draw resolving, turning another draw into five life and triggering the Spirit Dragon again while cards remain to be drawn.
Skirge Familiar lets its controller discard one of those additional cards for a black mana. That mana can pay for another Words of Worship activation. Repeating the sequence allows the deck to move through its library while continuing to generate cards.
The result is a striking example of how Magic: The Gathering can transform an old enchantment with an unfashionable activated ability into a central piece of a modern Commander combo.
Can the Words of Worship Price Last?

The price spike is particularly dramatic because Words of Worship is more than two decades old and has not been a major Commander staple. With a relatively limited supply, even a modest surge of buyers can produce large price swings, as the changes between 8, 19, 22 and 23 September show.
Whether the higher price becomes established remains uncertain. For the moment, however, an overlooked Onslaught rare is firmly in the Reality Fracture conversation.
