Star Wars: Zero Company, EA’s turn-based tactical strategy game with XCOM-style mechanics, delivers one of the franchise’s most effective crossovers between modern games. The reveal works because it is surprising, emotionally meaningful and grounded in the wider Star Wars timeline.

Spoiler warning: the following discussion covers a major late-game mission and the identity of a returning character.

Spoiler Warning

Tel-Rea receives a dangerous message

Late in the campaign, Tel-Rea—a young Tognath Jedi working alongside Zero Company—receives a distress call from someone she knew before the Empire seized control and began hunting Jedi and their allies.

The caller is Trilla Suduri, Tel-Rea’s former friend from their time at the Jedi Academy. Suduri says she is meeting surviving Jedi to decide what comes next. Tel-Rea wants to join her, but some members of Zero Company suspect the invitation could be an Imperial trap designed to expose more Jedi and their supporters.

Tel-Rea is prepared to take the risk because of her memories of Suduri, though she asks Hawks, the company’s leader, to provide support. The danger becomes clear when the team reaches Dantooine.

Trilla Suduri returns as the Second Sister

Players familiar with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will immediately recognise the threat behind Suduri’s name. At this point in the timeline, she has fallen from the Jedi Order and serves the Empire as the Second Sister, an Inquisitor tasked with finding and eliminating surviving Jedi.

Tel-Rea, Hawks and the rest of Zero Company do not know what awaits them. When Suduri appears on Dantooine in black armour, carrying a red lightsaber and intent on killing Tel-Rea, the mission turns into a confrontation with a character whose history players already understand.

A mission built around survival

Before the battle begins, Suduri and Tel-Rea speak over communications. Suduri references Tel-Rea’s former master, Cere Junda, and condemns the Jedi Order for taking children from their families to train them as Jedi.

Tel-Rea rejects Suduri’s offer to join the Inquisitors, triggering the encounter. The objective is not to defeat the Second Sister. Instead, Zero Company must protect Tel-Rea, endure several rounds and escape.

That change in objective gives the sequence a distinct tension. Suduri is overwhelmingly powerful, difficult to damage and free to dictate the pace of the fight. Players accustomed to solving missions by defeating every opponent must instead hold out long enough to survive.

Why the cameo works so well

Suduri’s appearance succeeds on several levels. Fans who know her history understand the danger before the mission starts, while Tel-Rea’s personal connection makes the encounter more than a simple surprise appearance. It also gives Tel-Rea’s storyline a painful turning point.

The crossover is especially effective because it makes logical sense within the setting. A Jedi survivor seeking allies during the Imperial era could plausibly be drawn into the Second Sister’s hunt. The game does not treat the cameo as an unrelated novelty; it uses Suduri to reshape the mission and the emotional stakes.

It is also notable to see a character primarily associated with Star Wars games appear in another game. Okay, she did have one minor appearance in the comics first, but her strongest identity remains tied to the interactive stories that introduced her.

The wider Star Wars connection

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor rank among the strongest Star Wars games of recent years. Seeing characters from those games move into other stories—particularly other games—makes the franchise feel more connected without forcing an implausible meeting.

That leaves one obvious question for the future: when will Cal Kestis make his own appearance in a Star Wars film, series or another game?
