Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls director Kazuto Sekine has outlined several planned changes for the tag-team fighter, including a longer assist cooldown and further work on the Windows PC version.

In a Steam announcement, Sekine acknowledged that performance problems remain on PC. Arc System Works is working on improvements intended to help players enjoy the game more fully, following several patches that have delivered only limited frame-rate gains for some users.

The planned fix for assist spam

The most immediate gameplay concern affects both PC and PlayStation 5 players: the frequency of assist calls. Players can unlock all of their assists as early as the first round, then repeatedly summon them to restrict movement, cover the screen with projectiles and maintain extended pressure.

At present, the main drawback is a short recovery period before the assist can be used again. That brief delay is often too minor to discourage repeated calls, creating matches that many players describe as excessively chaotic or “spammy”. Increasing the assist cooldown should give neutral play and defensive decisions more room to breathe.

Sekine also said the input system will be revised so players will not need to hold buttons while buffering attacks. The team is taking a measured approach to character balance as well. Current win rates sit between 48% and 52% for every fighter, so the studio does not plan to rush into character-specific balance changes.

How has Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls been received?

The game has had a difficult launch period. Its Windows PC release arrived with serious performance problems that made online play challenging. Later patches improved stability, but the game still reportedly performs worse than a modified version in which the controversial digital rights management was removed. That DRM also failed to prevent the game from being cracked for piracy.

The PC audience has consequently remained small. SteamDB recorded a peak of 1,157 concurrent players during the previous 24 hours, fewer than several older fighting games. Over the same period, Street Fighter 6 reached 34,855 players, Tekken 8 reached 6,516, and 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11 reached 2,278.

Alinea Analytics estimated that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls sold about 500,000 copies during its first week. The game is also unavailable for purchase in dozens of regions, another factor that may have limited its momentum after launch.

Why these changes matter

For a competitive fighter, technical reliability and readable match flow are closely connected. Improving PC performance could make online matches more accessible, while a longer assist cooldown may reduce the constant visual clutter that has frustrated players.

Players following the wider arcade and fighting-game news landscape will be watching whether these adjustments improve the experience without disturbing the current balance between the roster.
