Street Fighter returns to cinemas on 16 October 2026, giving the long-running fighting-game franchise another chance to deliver the tournament story fans have been waiting to see on the big screen.
Capcom launched Street Fighter in 1987, followed by a succession of acclaimed games and memorable fighters. Film adaptations have had a much rougher run. A tournament-led Street Fighter film
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, known for The Eric Andre Show, the 2026 film follows Ryu, played by Andrew Koji, and Ken Masters, played by Noah Centineo. Chun-Li, portrayed by Callina Liang, recruits the pair to return to the World Warrior Tournament.
The supporting cast brings a wide range of fighters to the screen. Joe Anoa’i plays Akuma, David Dastmalchian is M. Bison, Cody Rhodes takes the role of Guile, Andrew Schulz plays Dan Hibiki, and Vidyut Jammwal portrays Dhalsim.
A sizeable cast of familiar fighters
Several secondary roles also feature recognisable names. Eric André plays Don Sauvage, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson appears as Balrog, and Jason Momoa plays Blanka. A notable cast does not guarantee a successful adaptation, but the lineup gives the film plenty of attention before release.
The trailer suggests that the production is drawing directly from the games. The fighters resemble their virtual counterparts, including Guile’s distinctive hairstyle, while the action appears designed around the series’ established combat style. Caution is still sensible given the franchise’s previous film history, but the new approach is closer to what fans have been asking for since the 1990s.
