Sega and Netflix Announce an Official Crazy Taxi Movie
Sega and Netflix are joining forces on a slate of screen adaptations, led by a Crazy Taxi movie currently planned for 2027. The partnership will also cover a new animated Sonic series and a live-action film based on RGG Studio’s upcoming game Stranger Than Heaven.

Crazy Taxi heads to the big screen
The Crazy Taxi adaptation will be written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, the screenwriters behind the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara are attached as producers, bringing several members of the Sonic the Hedgehog film team to the project.
The movie is expected to be the first of the three announced projects to arrive. Its planned 2027 release would also place it alongside the return of the game series in Crazy Taxi: World Tour, which is scheduled for the same year.
Three different Sega worlds
Netflix’s Sonic project is an animated series aimed at an upper pre-school audience. Carlos Stevens, known for Love, Death & Robots and The Alchemist’s Letter, is developing the show with Toru Nakahara. Its stated creative direction combines comedy, emotional grounding and an energetic sense of attitude for younger viewers.
Stranger Than Heaven will receive a live-action film. The adaptation is intended to present the upcoming RGG Studio title and its wider world from a fresh perspective, with Nakahara also producing.
“Expect something cute yet cool for Sonic, hilariously crazy for Crazy Taxi, and a badass action drama for Stranger Than Heaven,” Sega head producer Toru Nakahara said in the announcement. “The whole team is absolutely thrilled!”
Nakahara has produced Sega’s three Sonic the Hedgehog films and the Knuckles miniseries. Netflix vice-president of nonfiction and transmedia Brandon Riegg said the arrangement would let the companies work across three distinct eras of Sega’s catalogue while introducing those properties to new audiences.
Crazy Taxi’s game revival arrives first
Crazy Taxi: World Tour is also due in 2027 for consoles and PC. Discussion around the game has included its use of generative AI during development. Its Steam description states that AI was used during the ideation of background objects, but that no AI-generated material will appear in the final game.
