A fresh round of layoffs has affected multiple departments at IGN, including prominent presenters, editors and producers. Long-serving video hosts Brian Altano and Seth Macy are among the staff reported to have lost their roles.

Altano joined IGN in 2009 and became a principal host of the PlayStation podcast Beyond after Greg Miller and Colin Moriarty left more than a decade ago. Macy worked as a senior commerce team editor and regularly appeared on the Nintendo Voice Chat podcast. He confirmed his departure on X.

IGN had not immediately responded to a request for comment at the time of reporting.

Ryan McCaffrey expressed his support for Macy, describing him as a valued team member whose work extended across departments that were often not visible to the public. McCaffrey said Macy did not deserve the dismissal and offered to help if needed.

Multiple teams affected

The total number of redundancies remains unclear. Reports indicate that the cuts may have been influenced in some cases by employees’ remote-working arrangements and whether they were prepared to relocate.

Bo Moore, a senior manager overseeing technology coverage, said he was affected on a day when his team published extensive reporting on the launch of Valve’s Steam Frame. Moore noted that, although his byline appeared on only one of seven stories released that morning, he edited all of them and had worked late the previous week before starting early to support one of the site’s largest coverage days.

Moore shared those comments in a post posted on Bluesky.

Further cuts after IGN Live

The latest redundancies follow a smaller round several months earlier, when engineers and other employees were dismissed shortly after IGN Live, the company’s Los Angeles event connected with Summer Game Fest. A member of the IGN Creators Guild previously told Aftermath that layoffs had become a recurring occurrence after successful events.

The site also recently completed its annual in-person coverage of San Diego Comic-Con, including interviews hosted by Altano. Its parent company, Ziff Davis, acquired several other games websites in 2024, including Eurogamer and Rock Paper Shotgun, followed by intermittent editorial cuts. Former publisher John Davison left just over a year ago and was not formally replaced.

Union statement

Update, September 15, 2026, 12:07 a.m. ET: The IGN Creators Guild said four union members and many other employees across the organisation had been laid off. The guild said producers, editors, hosts and other important roles had been removed, placing greater workloads and further uncertainty on those who remain.

The guild described the day as devastating, angry and heartbreaking for affected colleagues. It acknowledged the broader difficulties facing media companies but questioned how dismissing experienced employees would strengthen the organisation’s response to those pressures.

Update, September 14, 2026, 5:49 p.m. ET: Additional comments from staff were added.
