Marvel’s Wolverine uses its post-credits scenes to point towards several possible directions for a sequel. The game reshapes familiar X-Men history, leaving players with questions about Apocalypse, Sabretooth, Logan and Jean Grey.

Spoiler Warning

There are two scenes after the main story. The first is shown to every player. The second requires extra completion progress before it becomes available.

Sabretooth and the Helix Engine

The first scene shows Sabretooth discovering what appears to be another Helix Engine. The device has been used throughout the game to awaken dormant mutants, and this version seems to remain intact rather than being rebuilt and operated during the main campaign.

Sabretooth finds it after following the voice of Apocalypse, which has remained in his mind since he used a Helix Engine himself. Although Apocalypse’s voice is heard repeatedly, the game offers only limited explanation of the character’s role.

Who is Apocalypse?

Apocalypse, also known as En Sabah Nur, is an ancient X-Men villain who was born in Egypt centuries before the heroes encountered in Marvel’s Wolverine. He is widely regarded as one of Marvel’s most formidable antagonists.

His abilities include altering his molecular structure, immense physical strength and powerful psychic abilities. The post-credits material suggests that his influence may become more important in a future story.

Wolverine Sabretooth

Sabretooth joins the Four Horsemen

Apocalypse is traditionally associated with four Horsemen, inspired by the biblical figures linked to the end of days. Their titles are Famine, Death, War and Pestilence, although the identities chosen for the group have changed across different versions of the story.

In the timeline presented by Marvel’s Wolverine, Sabretooth appears to be one of the Horsemen. The other three members have not been identified, leaving the game considerable room to introduce different Marvel characters.

Logan has previously held the mantle of Death during his long life. The game gradually restores pieces of those memories, and he nearly becomes Death again before Jean removes Apocalypse’s influence from his mind. The process also destroys most of Logan’s remaining memories.

The unlockable Jean and Logan scene

The second post-credits scene is available only after finishing the game and earning at least a bronze rank in every Nightmare Door trial. It takes place 75 years before the main story, with Logan walking through the farm he once shared with Jean.

Jean explains the complete history of their relationship, including how they first met hundreds of years earlier and how she initially burned Death out of Logan’s psyche. Jean has since died and been reborn many times, like a phoenix, yet she and Logan have repeatedly found one another.

The flashback concludes as they return together to the cabin, one of the few genuinely happy memories left from their many lives.

Wolverine Jean

What the ending could mean

By the end of Marvel’s Wolverine, Logan’s memory has been erased. He leaves Jean and her companions to search for himself, with the hope of recovering part of the identity he once knew.

The two scenes leave several possibilities open: Apocalypse’s return, a Horsemen storyline involving Sabretooth and the unresolved future of Logan and Jean. Whether those threads continue depends on the game’s performance and whether Insomniac develops a sequel.
