Blizzard has revealed Doctrine, the next hero joining Overwatch. Described as a vampire-inspired support character, Doctrine made his debut during BlizzCon’s opening ceremony.
Doctrine’s shadowy debut
An animated cinematic introduced Act 3 of the current story, following Doomfist, Sombra, Widowmaker and Reaper as they work together to free Doctrine from a prison cell. The character initially appears corpse-like before revealing bat-like powers and adopting a sleek, futuristic Victorian nightwalker design.
Doctrine carries a scepter capable of healing allies. He can also deploy mechanical bats, or drones, to attack opponents. His signature ability, Infuse, changes the behaviour of his next ability; for example, it can transform a dash into flight.

A new map and hero changes
The presentation also announced Watch Camp: Grimvotn, an escort map set in an Icelandic prison camp. The map will be playable at the BlizzCon show floor alongside upcoming character changes.
Roadhog is being substantially reworked in an effort to make him a more appealing tank choice. Sombra is also being redesigned as a support character. Both heroes and the new map will be available to try at BlizzCon.
Players at home will receive a limited-time trial of Doctrine. Dokiwatch cosmetics are also scheduled to return.
October update planned
These updates are planned for launch in October. Blizzard has also confirmed that one more hero remains to be revealed for release later this year.
