Overwatch 2 Season 5 is set to add a new support hero, a fresh Escort map and the return of popular Dokiwatch cosmetics. Blizzard announced the incoming content during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony.

Doctrine joins the Overwatch roster

Doctrine is a vampiric-themed hero connected to Talon. The BlizzCon cinematic follows Doomfist as he tries to retain control of the organisation after nearly being killed. Working with agents including Sombra, he frees Doctrine, who returns to combat alongside his sect within Talon.

The new character was playable at BlizzCon. Players at home can also test Doctrine through a limited-time hero trial beginning on the day of the announcement, with the timing placing his arrival just before Halloween.

How Doctrine plays

Doctrine fills the support role, but Blizzard says mastering him will demand a high level of mechanical skill. His attacks can both restore health to allies and damage opponents, giving the character an aggressive, flexible place in a team composition.

Season 5 adds an Icelandic prison map

Doctrine arrives alongside Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, an Icelandic prison designed for Escort matches. The map is part of a broader Season 5 package that also lets players earn rewards from earlier battle passes.

Dokiwatch is returning as well. Fans of anime and manga can expect more information about the cosmetics and event during Blizzard’s dedicated Overwatch panel at BlizzCon.

No new game announced

Blizzard did not announce a new Overwatch game at the event. The franchise will nevertheless have a busy period, with Season 5, the Overwatch World Cup and a QuestWatch live-play session hosted by Matt Mercer scheduled for the following day.

Overwatch remains free to play on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
