Blizzard has offered an early glimpse of The Last Titan, the next expansion for World of Warcraft, during the opening ceremony at BlizzCon. The studio kept the preview brief, choosing not to reveal too much about how the current expansion, Midnight, will conclude.
Most of the presentation focused on Midnight and its final major update, patch 12.2: Eclipse. The patch will bring the long-running threat posed by the void harbinger Xal’atath to a climax, including a direct confrontation with her.
A cinematic shows Xal’atath tearing open the entrance to Azeroth’s World Soul and unleashing her void forces. Her plan to consume the souls of worlds is set to reach its decisive stage in Eclipse.
Game director Ion Hazzikostas acknowledged that Blizzard was not ready to show much of The Last Titan. He did, however, indicate that the final chapter of Eclipse will deliver a revelation that sets up the climax of World of Warcraft‘s 20-year story.
The brief expansion teaser featured a snowy Northrend, Wyrmrest Temple and a huge dark figure advancing towards the landmark before firing a powerful laser. It also confirmed a 2027 release window.
More details are coming
For now, The Last Titan remains largely under wraps. Hazzikostas said Blizzard plans to show more early next year, after the story of Eclipse has been resolved.
