Warcraft 3 has received its first official campaign in 23 years. Forsaken Kingdom was unexpectedly released for Warcraft 3: Reforged during BlizzCon 2026.

What is Forsaken Kingdom?

Forsaken Kingdom is a two-part campaign set in the Undercity. It explores how the location acquired its name, brings back the Scarlet Crusade and features characters including Sylvanas.

Blizzard says the campaign will provide more than 30 hours of content. It also introduces the Forsaken Paladin, a new neutral hero unit. The story is designed to expand Warcraft lore beyond World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, while setting the stage for World of Warcraft Forever.

A major update for Warcraft 3: Reforged

The campaign launches alongside a substantial free update for Warcraft 3: Reforged. The patch addresses bugs that have remained in the remake, improves the world editor and adds a new definitive-edition graphics mode.

Players can also select up to 24 units at once. Together, these changes suggest that Blizzard is continuing efforts to repair the reputation of a remake that attracted considerable criticism.

Why this release matters

The previous official Warcraft 3 campaign arrived with The Frozen Throne, the expansion to Reign of Chaos. That release was 23 years ago. Since then, the series has seen a failed mobile game, remasters of the first two Warcraft titles and the poorly received Warcraft 3: Reforged.

When Reforged launched in January 2020, it was presented as an ambitious reimagining of one of Blizzard’s most acclaimed games. The finished product was criticised for its visuals, bugs, restrictions affecting creations made in the map editor and the absence of promised new narrative content.
