Diablo 4: Age of Hatred Collection brings Blizzard’s action RPG to Nintendo Switch 2, combining the base game with the Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred expansions. It launches on 14 September 2026, alongside the start of the Season of Hell’s Legacy.
A hands-on demo at BlizzCon 2026 showed a technically capable conversion, while Blizzard confirmed that the release will support mouse controls through the Joy-Con 2 controllers. That feature could give this version a useful connection to the series’ PC origins.
How Diablo 4’s Switch 2 mouse controls work
Mouse controls are among the Switch 2’s more unusual capabilities. Place the flat side of a Joy-Con 2 on a suitable surface and it can provide cursor-style control in compatible games, including Fortnite, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Sid Meier’s Civilization 7.
Because Diablo began as a PC-focused franchise, mouse support is particularly well suited to its menus and combat. It also gives the Switch 2 edition an option not offered by the other console versions.
The demo controllers were secured to the handheld unit, so the mouse function could not be tested during the session. The port was played in both handheld and docked modes instead, with broadly positive results.
A full Diablo 4 experience in the Season of Hell’s Legacy

The BlizzCon build featured “A Journey Through The Past”, a quest from the upcoming Season of Hell’s Legacy. It sent the player into the Furnace of Hate to battle familiar figures from the series, including Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred, and Belial, the Lord of Lies.
Players paying close attention may also spot enemy names linked to Diablo 2 bosses such as Achmel and Colenzo. The season is designed to mark Diablo’s 30th anniversary, and the retrospective quest reflects that focus.
The same quest was available on PC at the event, indicating that the Switch 2 version is not being cut down for content. However, the collection does not appear to include Nintendo-themed extras similar to those added to the Switch version of Diablo 3 at launch.

Docked performance is behind current consoles
In docked mode, Diablo 4 is visibly less sharp than the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions, as well as the high-end PC build shown alongside it. The exact resolution and frame rate were not confirmed, but the presentation is closer to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions.
That reduction does not appear to undermine playability. The demo remained responsive during demanding boss encounters, with no noticeable stutter or missed inputs. Loading was also impressively quick.

Handheld mode is the strongest reason to play
Handheld play made a stronger impression. Even when the screen filled with enemies and effects, the resolution and frame rate felt stable. For portable action-RPG sessions, the conversion appeared considerably less compromised than its docked presentation suggests.
The main drawback is readability. Text is quite small, which makes handheld mode less suitable for players who want to closely examine dialogue, item descriptions and character information. For players more interested in fast combat than reading every detail, that limitation is easier to accept.
The portable experience also seems better tailored to this hardware than the Steam Deck Verified PC version. Testing the confirmed mouse controls after launch will be an important next step.
What the Switch 2 version means for arcade players
Diablo 4 is not an arcade cabinet conversion, but its immediate combat, loot-driven progression and readable character builds make it relevant to anyone considering a dedicated home gaming setup. RETROCADE’s arcade machine buying guide covers the practical decisions involved in choosing hardware for a games room.
For a traditional cabinet, browse the available arcade machines. Players working with limited space can also compare compact bartop arcades, while builders planning a custom project may prefer DIY arcade kits.

Based on the BlizzCon build, the Switch 2 release offers a stable handheld version of Diablo 4 with the added promise of Joy-Con 2 mouse support. Docked visuals trail newer consoles, but responsive combat, fast loading and access to the complete expansion package make the portable format the more compelling proposition.
