The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother is shaping up as a mystery adventure for fans who have been waiting for another investigation game with real personality. Koei Tecmo has released a full trailer after the title was briefly revealed alongside other Nintendo news.
The anime follows Mao Mao, a skilled apothecary forced to work as a poison taster in the Imperial harem. Her knowledge of medicine, toxins and remedies soon makes her indispensable when she begins uncovering suspicious illnesses, crimes and murders inside the palace.
Jinshi, an imperial eunuch with a clear affection for Mao Mao, assists her investigations. Their partnership combines palace intrigue with the dry humour and character tension that have made the series such a standout.
The game’s story is an original scenario planned by series creator Hyuganatsu. Mao Mao and Jinshi will confront “The Five Mysteries of the Rear Palace”, investigating incidents that eventually have to be explained before the emperor rather than a courtroom judge.
That structure should appeal to players who enjoy the courtroom deductions of Ace Attorney. The trailer shows crime-scene investigation, interviews and evidence-based reasoning, alongside exploration, item gathering and crafting. The mix could give the game a broader adventure framework than a straightforward visual novel.

The game is scheduled for early 2027 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam. That gives fans time to revisit the anime before season three starts next month, then return to the Imperial palace in a new interactive mystery.
