Pokémon Go’s Mega Squads event runs from 8–14 September and introduces Maschiff, shiny Flamigo and upgraded Mega forms for Beedrill and Houndoom. The event changes midway, so the available spawns, raids, eggs and Field Research depend on when you play.
The second half begins at 10 am local time on 11 September. Two Spotlight Hours also take place during the event rather than following the usual Tuesday and Thursday schedule.

How to catch Maschiff in Pokémon Go
Maschiff becomes available from 11 September at 10 am local time through several event activities:
- Hatch a newly obtained 5 km egg.
- Complete the “Hatch an egg” Field Research task, which can also award a Flamigo encounter.
- Reach rank 30 in the Go Pass: Mega Squads. Go Pass Deluxe players can earn another Maschiff at rank 60.
Maschiff evolves into Mabostiff with 50 Maschiff Candy. Maschiff cannot be shiny at this time.
Mega Squads Go Pass rewards
The event Go Pass contains 30 ranks, followed by 30 additional bonus ranks. Playing through the pass can provide Maschiff encounters, along with Mega Energy for both Houndoom and Beedrill.
- Rank 1: Catching Weedle, Pidgey, Houndour, Carvanha or their evolutions may award Mega Energy.
- Rank 15: Hatch Stardust is doubled.
- Rank 15, Deluxe: Eggs placed in an Incubator during the event require half the usual hatch distance.
The Deluxe Pass costs $4.99 and adds a cosmetic jacket at rank 25.
Field Research tasks and rewards
Spinning PokéStops during the event can provide the following tasks.
8–11 September
- Catch 10 Bug- or Flying-type Pokémon: Fletchling, Pidgey or Weedle encounter.
- Catch 10 Flamigo: one Rare Candy XL or 10,000 Stardust.
- Hatch an egg: Flamigo encounter.
- Spin three PokéStops or Gyms: 10 Poké Balls, five Razz Berries or 500 Stardust.
11–14 September
- Catch 10 Dark-type Pokémon: Carvanha, Houndour or Nickit encounter.
- Catch 10 Flamigo: one Rare Candy XL or 10,000 Stardust.
- Hatch an egg: Flamigo or Maschiff encounter.
- Spin three PokéStops or Gyms: 10 Poké Balls, five Razz Berries or 500 Stardust.
Boosted Pokémon spawns
Weedle and Flamigo appear more frequently throughout the event.
8–11 September only
- Pidgey, with an increased chance of being shiny.
- Rookidee.
11–14 September only
- Houndour.
- Carvanha, with an increased chance of being shiny.
