Pokémon Go will hold its Gible Community Day Classic on Saturday, 12 September, from 2pm to 5pm local time. Trainers can expect a large number of Gible, boosted shiny odds and several useful event bonuses.
Gible is worth prioritising if you need a strong Garchomp. Mega Garchomp is a powerful attacker, so aim to find at least one high-CP Gible and collect enough Candy to evolve and power it up.
How to find shiny Gible in Pokémon Go
Community Day shiny odds are approximately 1 in 24, based on earlier research preserved by the Wayback Machine. Playing throughout the full three-hour event should therefore give you a reasonable opportunity to encounter several shiny Gible.
If your time or Poké Balls are limited, use an Incense and tap each Gible to check it. Run from any that are not shiny and continue to the next encounter. Gible you have already tapped will turn to face your trainer, making previously checked Pokémon easier to recognise.
Gible Community Day evolution move
Evolve Gabite into Garchomp between 2pm and 9pm local time to teach it the charged move Earth Power.
Trainers who miss this window may have another opportunity during a Community Day weekend event in December. Alternatively, an Elite TM can be used to teach Garchomp the move without waiting.
Best Garchomp movesets in Pokémon Go
Garchomp is a strong choice for raids and gyms, particularly because of its powerful Mega Evolution. As a Dragon-type attacker, Mega Garchomp ranks third behind Eternatus and Mega Rayquaza when equipped with Dragon Tail and Breaking Swipe.
It is also the second-best Ground-type attacker behind Primal Groudon when using Mud Shot and Earth Power. If resources allow, consider building at least two Garchomp so you can cover both roles.
Garchomp is also effective in the Master League. PvPoke’s rankings support using Dragon Tail, Twister and Earth Power for this format, where the combination can challenge a range of opposing Dragon types.
A second Mega Evolution, Mega Garchomp Z, has not yet been added to the game. It will be a pure Dragon-type, so keeping an extra Garchomp or two may prove useful.
Gible Community Day bonuses
The following bonuses and features will be active during the event:
- 3× XP for catching Pokémon
- Incense lasts for three hours
- Lure Modules last for one hour
- Gible can appear in special snapshot photobombs
- A Collection Challenge rewards Garchomp Mega Energy
- Themed Field Research may reward Gible with a Special Background
Use a Lucky Egg alongside Incense if you want to maximise your XP and encounter rate. You can also earn extra Gible Candy per catch while Mega Evolving Dragonite, Ampharos, Steelix, Sceptile, Swampert, Altaria, Salamence, Latias, Latios, Rayquaza or Garchomp. Primal Reversion on Groudon also provides additional Candy.
Lure Module bonus and extended event window
From 2pm to 9pm, placed Lure Modules will attract Gible in high numbers. This continues beyond the main Community Day period, which ends at 5pm.
The extended lure period also retains the increased Community Day shiny rate. As a result, lures can continue producing shiny Gible and Gible with a Special Background after the main event has finished.
