Prime Video is moving straight from the end of Reacher Season 4 into its next action thriller. Neagley, an eight-episode spin-off centred on Frances Neagley, premieres on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.
The launch coincides with the arrival of the fourth season’s finale, giving viewers an immediate follow-up rather than a long wait between chapters in the wider Lee Child universe.
What is Neagley about?
Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten, is a former Master Sergeant in the Army’s 110th MP Special Investigations Unit and one of Jack Reacher’s most trusted allies. She now works as a private investigator in Chicago, applying the investigative skills she developed during her military career.
The story begins after Neagley learns that a close friend has died in what appears to be a drug-related suicide on Chicago railway tracks. She does not accept the official explanation. Her investigation soon exposes a dangerous conspiracy and places her directly in the path of people willing to kill to protect it.
Unlike Reacher, Neagley is not travelling from one town to the next. Her life is established in Chicago, with an independent career, personal relationships and investigative style that give the spin-off its own centre of gravity.
The series is designed to work as a standalone thriller, so new viewers do not need extensive knowledge of the existing show or Lee Child’s novels. Fans can still expect the franchise’s familiar combination of capable investigators, criminal conspiracies and forceful action.
Sten has played Neagley since the character’s introduction in the fifth episode of Reacher and returns for the spin-off. Alan Ritchson is also confirmed to appear as Jack Reacher, although the new series places Neagley firmly in the lead.
The eight-episode story is original rather than an adaptation of a specific Lee Child novel. Child is executive producer and is co-writing a separate Neagley novel with Yasmin Angoe. Titled Zero Margin, the book is scheduled for 2027, after the television series airs.
Reacher showrunner Nick Santora co-created Neagley with Nicholas Wootton. Veteran Reacher director Sam Hill directed the first two episodes, while Child remains closely involved as an executive producer.
Neagley is also a natural choice for expansion because she is one of the few people Reacher genuinely trusts. Her role has grown in importance across Child’s books, giving the character a substantial foundation beyond the television spin-off.
When does Neagley premiere?
Neagley premieres exclusively on Prime Video on Wednesday, 16 September 2026. All eight episodes are scheduled to become available on the same day.
