Speculation is growing that Adria Arjona could play the DCU’s next Wonder Woman after a workout video highlighted the demanding physical preparation for her mystery role in Man of Tomorrow.
Why fans are connecting Arjona to Wonder Woman
When James Gunn cast Arjona, known for Andor and Morbius, in the upcoming Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, reports identified her character as Maxima. The relatively obscure DC figure has led many fans to wonder whether Arjona might instead be taking on the far more prominent role of Wonder Woman.
Those theories have returned after Arjona discussed her preparation for Onslaught and Man of Tomorrow in a recent video. She did not identify the DC character she is playing, and that silence has encouraged further speculation rather than settling it.
A demanding training routine
In the video, Arjona describes a programme involving boxing and weightlifting. She says the physical transformation has been difficult but rewarding, adding that she has never felt stronger. The excitement of playing her unnamed character, she explains, helps her get up for the work even though the training is physically exhausting.
“I’m enjoying the transformation, but it’s hard work. I’ve never felt stronger, but it’s hard.”
Some fans see that enthusiasm, combined with the secrecy around her role, as a clue that Arjona is playing Wonder Woman rather than Maxima. The theory remains unconfirmed, however. Arjona’s comments do not name Diana Prince or establish which character requires the training.
What is known about Man of Tomorrow?
Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to reach cinemas on 9 July 2027, so there could be months of questions about Arjona’s part before the film arrives. The situation recalls Sadie Sink’s experience while avoiding questions about her mystery role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which was reported to be Jean Grey.
David Corenswet will return as Superman, with Nicholas Hoult again playing Lex Luthor. Rachel Brosnahan is back as Lois Lane, alongside Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
The sequel will also add Aaron Pierre as John Stewart/Green Lantern. Pierre is known for Lanterns and Rebel Ridge. Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard and Sinqua Walls have also joined the film in unspecified roles.
A separate Wonder Woman film is also reportedly in development
DC Studios is reportedly developing a standalone Wonder Woman film, with Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira reportedly working on the script. If Wonder Woman appears first in Man of Tomorrow, Arjona could become the next live-action actor to portray the Amazon.
Gal Gadot was the previous live-action Wonder Woman. Before Gadot’s Diana Prince, Cathy Lee Crosby played the character in the 1974 made-for-television film Wonder Woman, while Lynda Carter starred in the television series that began in 1975.
