The White House has launched arcade.gov, a browser-based collection of five deliberately political mini-games. Rather than offering original arcade design, the site reworks familiar concepts around immigration, border walls, food policy and Trump-branded savings accounts.

The project also uses a “MAGA” wordmark styled after Sega’s recognisable lettering. That treatment appears in the promotional trailer, while the games themselves do not appear to include splash screens. The site says more games are planned.

For readers interested in how arcade ideas are usually developed, RETROCADE’s arcade news and features offer a very different look at the craft behind games and cabinets.

Racist Tetris

Rio Run borrows the basic structure of Snake. Players control a character collecting an increasingly long chain of immigrants. The figures are presented as non-white, black-haired characters who change into orange jumpsuits when collected. The game’s sluggish performance is part of the experience, although its political framing is far more conspicuous than its gameplay.

Five political mini-games

Build the Wall is structured as a version of Tetris, with falling blocks used to construct a border. The playfield can also be invaded by cartoon “aliens”, turning the game’s border rhetoric into a dehumanising joke. Unlike Tetris, completed rows do not disappear. Players still lose when the blocks reach the top, with the message “BORDER BREACHED” appearing even when the wall has prevented the figures from entering.

Supply Line asks players to sort school lunches under the slogan “Make America Healthy Again”. Items travel along a conveyor belt, and the player punches away products deemed unhealthy. In practice, that label appears to be applied to colourful packaging. The background posters criticise seed oils and promote beef tallow.

Flappy Bill is a Flappy Bird-style game featuring a bald eagle carrying an unidentified bill. Its design is extremely simple: the player guides the bird through the familiar obstacle-course format.

The fifth title, Trump Savings Tycoon, presents a mouse-controlled net used to catch blobs flying across the screen. Its stated goal is to fill children’s Trump accounts. During a short play session, the game displayed a possible total of $3,999,500, though that figure did not appear to reflect a meaningful investment simulation.

None of the games provides instructions. That makes the mechanics harder to assess, particularly in the site’s Tetris-like title, and leaves the collection feeling more like a political web stunt than a considered arcade release.

A weak use of arcade language

The games rely on instantly recognisable templates: Snake, Tetris, Flappy Bird and simple cursor-based catching. Familiar mechanics can make an effective short-form game, but here they are used mainly as containers for slogans and caricatures. Even Flappy Bill, arguably the most immediately playable entry, offers little beyond its direct imitation of the source format.

That is a useful reminder that arcade appeal depends on more than a recognisable premise. Responsive controls, readable rules, balanced challenge and a reason to keep playing matter whether a game is installed in an upright cabinet, a compact bartop arcade or played in a browser.

For anyone comparing this collection with a properly designed home setup, RETROCADE’s arcade machine buying guide covers the practical considerations behind choosing a machine. Builders can also explore arcade parts for joysticks, buttons and monitors or browse DIY arcade kits for a more hands-on project.

As a piece of official online promotion, the collection is notable less for its gameplay than for the decision to turn inflammatory political messaging into a set of arcade-style distractions. The result is a set of crude, underdeveloped mini-games whose provocation overwhelms whatever entertainment value their borrowed mechanics might have offered.
