Spider-Noir will not return for season two
Spider-Noir has been cancelled after one season on Prime Video. The unusual Marvel adaptation will not continue, although Amazon and Sony are reportedly still exploring other television projects based on characters Sony can adapt.
Deadline revealed the cancellation in a September 4 report. Amazon has not provided a specific reason. The series launched strongly, but it reportedly left Prime Video’s daily top 10 sooner than other major shows, including Reacher.
The decision does not appear to signal an end to Amazon’s relationship with Sony’s Marvel properties. Although a planned Silk series was scrapped, the companies are said to be developing multiple projects, including an unnamed character series that is reportedly approaching a series order.
Why a second season was always a difficult prospect
Spider-Noir was an especially unconventional superhero drama. Its 62-year-old lead was drawn from a Spider-Man variant first seen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, while viewers could choose between colour and black-and-white presentations. Producing both versions also required additional post-production work.
The series reworked familiar figures in unexpected ways, including Sandman, Tombstone and Black Cat. That distinctive approach made the show difficult to classify, but it also gave the single season a strong identity.
There will be no further exploration of what might have happened next. Unlike many modern streaming series, Spider-Noir did not end with a major post-credits tease, allowing its existing story to conclude neatly despite the cancellation.
For viewers in Australia who have not started it, Spider-Noir remains available to watch on Prime Video. The black-and-white version is particularly suited to its noir concept, though either presentation offers the complete season.
What this means for Marvel screen projects
The cancellation highlights the risk of building a streaming series around a deliberately unusual interpretation of a well-known character. Even so, Amazon’s continued interest in Sony-controlled Marvel characters suggests that more projects may still reach Prime Video.
