Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on 8 April 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2 and PC. Square Enix announced the date with its most extensive preview yet of the open-world RPG, which will conclude the remake trilogy.
New ways to explore the world
The expanded gameplay presentation showed that players can change characters whenever they choose. The airship also allows the party to parachute into almost any point on the map, while Yuffie gains a grappling-hook gun that opens up more vertical routes through the environment.
Character selection will affect more than combat. Cutscenes are presented from the viewpoint of whichever party member the player is controlling at the time.
FITS adds four combat roles
Square Enix has also provided more information about the previously announced Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear, or FITS. Every character can take on four distinct roles, with a separate outfit for each:
- Warrior
- Knight
- Black Mage
- Summoner
Changing a character’s clothing also changes their fighting style and abilities. That system adds another tactical decision to the remake trilogy’s blend of real-time action and RPG combat.
Piko joins the journey
Exploration will extend beyond the Highwind. Players receive a dedicated Chocobo companion named Piko, who can carry them across the game’s large areas, develop through levelling and assist during battles.
The card-based mini-game Queen’s Blood is also set to return. The game will feature an expanded story quest focused on Red XIII, who was revealed in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to be a highly skilled Queen’s Blood player.
