Sony’s September 2026 State of Play covered the PlayStation 5 pipeline through the remainder of 2026 and into 2027. The presentation featured new footage, surprise announcements, release dates and a closing deep dive into Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

Resident Evil opens the presentation

The showcase began with another trailer for Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil film. It follows a character emerging from a sewer before fleeing a horde of zombies that launch themselves from rooftops in pursuit.

Marvel’s Wolverine gets a final story-focused trailer

Insomniac Games presented a cinematic trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine. The footage concentrates on the game’s story, while also offering several glimpses of its action.

Ghost of Yōtei adds a survival challenge

Sucker Punch is introducing Most Wanted, a single-player survival mode for Ghost of Yōtei. Atsu will take on a sequence of hunts, collecting perks and other bonuses to support later attempts. Nagato, Jin and Oyuki can also join the action.

The mode, together with the Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition, launches on 1 October.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance finally appears

Capcom showed the first substantial trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, previously teased several months ago. The expansion takes hunters to a civilisation above the clouds, where they travel on mounts resembling chocobos. Changing ecosystems appear to affect monsters in regions both above and below the clouds.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is scheduled for 2027.

Metro 2039 shows an extended quest

After a brief Gamescom appearance, 4A Games returned with a longer look at Metro 2039. The trailer focuses on part of a quest and confirms a 4 February release.

Maneater 2 takes the shark to new waters

Maneater 2 once again puts players in control of a destructive shark, this time swimming through oceans and theme parks. The sequel retains the original’s premise while allowing the creature to mutate into an even stranger predator. It is planned for 2027.

Crimson Desert expansion sets sail

Pearl Abyss revealed Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, an expansion arriving on 15 October. New activities include sailing ships, constructing homes and pursuing romance. The trailer also teased an ocean environment and a huge monster lurking beneath it.

Final Fantasy Resonance demo announced

Square Enix returned with more footage of Final Fantasy Resonance, highlighting its HD-2D presentation—the first time the series has used that visual style. The trailer also featured a battle with Sephiroth, while a demo was confirmed for later on the same day.

Gundam: Rogue Orbit gets a release date

Gundam: Rogue Orbit is an action game with a style reminiscent of Armored Core. Its new trailer confirmed a 5 March launch.

Hunter’s Moon arrives before Halloween

Hunter’s Moon opened with a folk song before shifting into a first-person chase through ominous woodland. The story centres on a witch hunt, and the trailer strongly suggests the player may be the person being hunted. It launches on 26 October.

Uncanyon rebuilds a broken world

In Uncanyon, players search for lost objects and appear to piece them together while restoring sections of a damaged world. Puzzles lead through a mysterious forest in a visually distinctive adventure scheduled for 2027.

The original PlayStation becomes a Lego set

Sony announced a Lego set based on the original PlayStation, bringing the first console’s design into Lego form.

Keeper launches on PS5

Now independent, Double Fine is bringing its surreal lighthouse adventure Keeper to PS5 today.

Rev Noir reveals more gameplay

Konami showed additional gameplay from its anime-inspired RPG Rev Noir. The combat combines an action-RPG approach with distinctive abilities, including the power for heroes to absorb monster hearts and enhance their battle skills. The game is due in 2027.

Rhapsody in Scarlet is a jazzy surprise

Konami also unveiled Rhapsody in Scarlet, an action RPG set in a fantasy interpretation of 1920s New York. Its trailer paired jazz influences with fantastical creatures, travel through unusual locations and combined attacks. No release date has been announced.

Saros receives a boss rush mode

Housemarque’s free Saros Zenith update will add New Game Plus and Overlord Rush, a boss rush mode. It will also include approachability options, such as the ability to slow the game’s speed. The update is planned for later in 2026.

Gran Turismo 7 gets another update

Gran Turismo 7 Spec 4 will add cars, course layouts and Family Mode, a more accessible option intended for less experienced players. Polyphony Digital mentioned further features but did not reveal their details.

Until Dawn 2 sets a January release

Until Dawn 2 follows young adults filming a reality show in the hope of going viral. Their production turns dangerous when monsters appear, and player choices determine the different forms of suffering faced by the cast. The studio audience also seems to influence the investigators’ decisions. The trailer ended with a character’s skull being torn apart.

Until Dawn 2 launches on 28 January.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches in April

Square Enix closed the presentation by confirming an 8 April release for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. The latest trailer focused on action and included new moments featuring Cid and Cait Sith.
