Until Dawn 2 gets a January 2027 release date
Sony has confirmed that Until Dawn 2 will arrive on 28 January 2027, exclusively for PlayStation 5. The announcement came during a State of Play presentation, alongside a new trailer for the choice-driven horror adventure.
The sequel follows the cast of Dead True, a ghost-hunting YouTube series built around staged scares and the pursuit of online fame. Their latest project takes them to a remote island, where the danger is no longer part of the show and survival becomes the real challenge.
Choices, consequences and a very strange sacrifice
The trailer highlights the series’ familiar blend of branching decisions, campy horror and brutal consequences. In one scene, Mina, played by Camilla Senna, must choose between “Sacrifice rooster” and “Slash palm”. Elsewhere, a member of the cast attempts to cross a fragile rope bridge, only for it to collapse with grisly results.
That mixture of awkward decisions and serious danger remains central to the Until Dawn formula. Like the original, the sequel appears to build its tension around the question of who will make it through each encounter alive.
Who is making Until Dawn 2?
Until Dawn 2 is being developed by Firesprite, the studio behind Horizon Call of the Mountain and The Persistence. Supermassive Games created the first Until Dawn and later explored the interactive slasher format through The Dark Pictures Anthology and The Quarry.
Firesprite is also working with AdHoc Studio, the developer of Dispatch. The collaboration is intended to deliver a story with layered characters, sharp dialogue, strained relationships, difficult decisions and plenty of gruesome deaths.
Blackwood Sanatorium brings the story back to familiar ground
One of the trailer’s more significant details is the return to Blackwood Sanatorium. The Dead True team travels there to film an episode about tragic events that took place 12 years earlier.
Fans of the original game will recognise Blackwood as its primary setting. The footage also shows a wendigo attacking the new cast, suggesting that the sequel will have more direct links to its predecessor than its new characters and island setting initially imply.
