Blizzard appears to be preparing StarCraft news ahead of BlizzCon 2026, with fans uncovering strange visual glitches and concealed messages on the franchise’s official website.

The activity follows a report that Blizzard is reviving StarCraft with assistance from Korean publisher Nexon. It may point towards a project connected to StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void, although the clues do not yet confirm whether Blizzard is planning a new real-time strategy game, a shooter or something else.

Visitors to the official StarCraft website will find a presentation that broadly resembles its post-StarCraft: Remastered design. Some of its imagery now appears corrupted or unstable, creating an unsettling effect without clearly identifying the project behind it.

Hidden messages reference the Terran Dominion

Fans examining the website’s JavaScript console have found several redacted messages. Some are written in plain text, while others are encoded in binary. Two entries describe an unknown person attempting to access a Terran Dominion server:

>>Run systems check.

>INVALID CREDENTIALS

>Username: 2560037-DA

>Password: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

>ERROR

>USER FLAGGED

>CONTACT DOMINION SERVICE DESK IMMEDIATELY

>>Requesting information on special order 176

>INVALID CREDENTIALS

>UNABLE TO COMPLY

>>Who is involved with special order 176?

>INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE

Additional entries use familiar StarCraft terminology, including a Terran Banshee transport, the frontier world of Roxara and Dominion Theta Squadron. One correspondence is dated 2575, placing the apparent events 70 years after the setting of StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void.

What the longer transmission says

A longer redacted transmission outlines Theta Squadron’s planned arrival at the Roxara lunar mining complex:

Other discoveries mention unidentified lifeforms and the medical condition of two redacted patients. So far, however, every revealed reference concerns the Terran faction.

A possible StarCraft shooter is also in the frame

Blizzard is reportedly developing a StarCraft shooter led by former Far Cry producer Dan Hay, who joined the company in 2022. A 2024 job listing also confirmed that Blizzard was working on an unannounced “open-world shooter game”. The listing did not identify the franchise, so its connection to StarCraft remains unconfirmed.

BlizzCon returns on Sept. 12 after a three-year break. That event may provide answers about the website’s clues and whether they relate to a new StarCraft project.

StarCraft’s long wait for a new game

The original StarCraft launched in March 1998, followed by the Brood War expansion in December. Blizzard then took 12 years to release StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Its two expansions were Heart of the Swarm in 2013 and Legacy of the Void in 2015.

The series has been largely dormant since StarCraft: Remastered arrived in 2017. Blizzard has also explored several cancelled or unreleased spin-offs, including the third-person shooter StarCraft: Ghost and the shooter project codenamed “Ares”.
