Naughty Dog has confirmed that filming is complete on the motion-captured performances for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, its upcoming sci-fi action game and PlayStation 5 exclusive.

The studio shared the milestone on its arcade and gaming news page, alongside an image of lead actor Tati Gabrielle wearing a motion-capture suit and holding a plastic gun prop.

“See you, space cowboy…”

Naughty Dog described the cinematic shoot as “very ambitious”, praised the cast’s work and said it would show more when the time was right. The studio shared the update on August 31, 2026, with the accompanying image available through the studio’s post.

What the filming milestone tells us

Completing the cinematic shoot is an important development step, but it does not establish how close the full game is to release. Reports have pointed to a 2027 launch, although Naughty Dog has not confirmed a date.

There is some precedent for a relatively short gap between motion-capture work and release. Nolan North, who plays Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series, said he had wrapped motion capture for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in October 2015. The game arrived on PlayStation 4 in May 2016.

However, Intergalactic is unlikely to follow exactly the same schedule. Most of Naughty Dog was reportedly focused on The Last of Us Online until the project was cancelled in 2023. That previous commitment means the newly confirmed shoot marks meaningful progress, but not necessarily the final stretch of development.

Could Intergalactic appear at State of Play?

Sony has announced a State of Play presentation for September 3. That has prompted speculation that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet could return with a new look, although the event may pass without an appearance.

Naughty Dog’s update could simply reassure players that development is active and reduce questions about the game’s current state. Insider NateTheHate has suggested that the title may be targeting the second half of 2027, but that window remains unconfirmed.

Naughty Dog’s recent release history

Naughty Dog’s most recent original release was 2020’s The Last of Us Part II. Since then, the studio has released remasters and ports of both The Last of Us games, as well as the PlayStation 4 Uncharted titles.

The developer had also been creating a live-service multiplayer game set in The Last of Us universe before that project was cancelled in 2023. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet therefore represents the studio’s next major new game, though its release timing and further details are still to come.
