KPop Demon Hunters premiered on Netflix in June 2025. Its story follows Huntr/x, a trio of global pop stars who secretly fight demons, with Rumi, Mira and Zoey balancing life on stage with their mission to restore the Honmoon—a magical barrier protecting the world from demons.

Although Rumi’s demonic heritage and growing friendship with Jinu drive much of the plot, the emotional centre of the film is the bond between the three demon slayers. Their shared history and mutual acceptance give Huntr/x its strongest sense of purpose.

That relationship receives greater attention in The Art of KPop Demon Hunters, a 144-page book by Tracy Miller-Zarneke, published by Random House Worlds. It contains more than 500 pieces of concept art, alongside commentary from the film’s writers, directors, artists and animators.

What the KPop Demon Hunters art book reveals

The book examines the thinking behind the film’s designs and story choices. Its influences include real-life family experiences, K-pop idol groups, anime and Korean mythology, giving readers a broader view of how the world of KPop Demon Hunters was assembled.

Six preview pages provide character artwork and behind-the-scenes material before the book’s official release. The pages offer new context for fans of both Huntr/x and the Saja Boys, while placing the trio’s friendship firmly at the heart of the film.

Why Huntr/x remain together

The most significant insight concerns the reason Rumi, Mira and Zoey stay together despite their difficult pasts. Writer and director Maggie Kang explains that Huntr/x functions as a kind of family for Rumi, helping fill the void left after her warrior mother was killed when Rumi was a baby.

“HUNTR/X serves as a family of sorts, especially for Rumi, filling a gap that was ripped open when her warrior mother was killed, at a time when Rumi was just a baby,” Kang says. “The trio each come from broken families, lonely upbringings, where they never felt like they truly belonged anywhere, and so they really need this group to be their safe place.”

Their friendship also gives Rumi the support she needs to remain true to herself by the film’s conclusion. Zoey and Mira’s acceptance is central to that journey, while the trio’s troubled backgrounds add weight to the affection they share.
