Fallout is moving from the screen and controller to the pinball playfield, with Stern Pinball teasing a new machine based on Prime Video’s television adaptation of Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic franchise.

Stern published two short teaser trailers on Tuesday. One centres on a Pip-Boy, while the other shows a huge Vault door opening. Both point to 3 September, when Stern is expected to provide more details about the machine.

What Stern has confirmed so far

The teasers offer only a glimpse, leaving the machine’s design and gameplay largely unknown. Recent leaks and speculation had already identified Fallout as a likely Stern project, so the videos effectively confirm what fans had been expecting.

Stern has not yet announced the price, available editions, gameplay features or the precise part of the Fallout universe that will provide the machine’s source material. The full reveal is scheduled shortly before PAX West.

Fallout’s screen and game universe keeps expanding

The Fallout franchise has reached a new level of popularity through Amazon’s television adaptation. Its second season followed Lucy MacLean and the Ghoul into the Mojave Wasteland and New Vegas, adding more recognisable game elements to the live-action version.

A third season is already in production. Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten and Walton Goggins are returning, joined by Aaron Paul, Emily Mortimer, Manny Jacinto and Thomasin McKenzie. Amazon has not announced a premiere date. The next season is expected to take Lucy and the Ghoul beyond New Vegas into new territory, including Colorado.

The games side of the franchise is active as well. Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 5 is in pre-production, although it remains a long-term project expected to follow The Elder Scrolls 6. The studio has also announced remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, plus another Fallout project being developed with Obsidian.

That places Stern’s reveal at the meeting point of games, television and a large established audience. Fallout’s vaults, characters and wasteland imagery give a pinball machine plenty of visual material, while the format provides a fresh way to interact with the setting.

When will the Fallout pinball machine be revealed?

Stern is due to show exactly what it has been developing on 3 September. Until then, the machine’s price, versions and play features remain unconfirmed.
