Modern Warfare 4 has a smaller weapon pool during its beta than it will at launch, but four guns already stand out. The full game is scheduled for release on October 23.
After the first beta weekend, these weapons offered the strongest mix of damage, flexibility and map suitability. There is no single winner: the right choice depends on whether you prefer adaptable rifles, aggressive close-range play or precision sniping.

Best guns in the Modern Warfare 4 beta
These are the four standout weapons available during the beta. They are listed alphabetically by role rather than ranked from best to worst.
- M4
- Kastov 762
- ISO Nightshade
- KG-7 Vulcan
M4 assault rifle

The M4 is the most versatile assault rifle in the group and remains a dependable choice across the Modern Warfare series. In the beta, it unlocks at level 9, making it the second of the five assault rifles available.
Its attachments can push it in either direction. A close-range build can deliver heavy damage while retaining the ability to challenge enemies at distance, whereas a setup focused on recoil control and accuracy remains capable in tight spaces. That flexibility makes the M4 suitable for almost every map and mode.
If you want to try a prepared version before fully levelling the weapon, choose the default Assault loadout. Players who enjoy adjusting their setup can also find useful ideas in RETROCADE’s arcade parts collection, particularly when planning a physical control setup for shooting games.
Kastov 762 assault rifle

The Kastov 762 is essentially an AK-47-inspired rifle and unlocks at level 21. It occupies a similar role to the M4, but trades some accuracy for greater damage, making it especially effective at slightly shorter distances.
The two rifles are close enough in performance that personal preference will be the deciding factor for many players. The Kastov 762 does have a practical advantage: its iron sights are less obstructive, so you can use another attachment instead of fitting an optic.
Vault Edition owners also receive the Voltspine blueprint. It improves the rifle’s accuracy and equips one of its Apex attachments, giving the weapon rounds with EMP-like effects.
ISO Nightshade SMG

Only two SMGs were available during the first beta weekend, and the ISO Nightshade proved the stronger option over the PPSh-41. It is unlocked by default when Create-a-Class becomes available, so it can be used immediately.
As a close-quarters weapon, the ISO Nightshade is best suited to fast, aggressive engagements. Maps such as Transit 213 and Silkworm give it room to excel, with compact routes that favour an SMG’s handling and short-range damage.
The Vault Edition’s La Sombra Venenosa blueprint extends the weapon’s usefulness at longer ranges and adds sword-themed cosmetics. Alternatively, the default Stalker loadout supplies extra attachments before the weapon is fully levelled.
For a retro shooting setup at home, RETROCADE’s arcade light guns category is a natural companion to fast-paced shooter games.
KG-7 Vulcan sniper rifle

The KG-7 Vulcan was the only sniper rifle available during the first beta weekend, but it is far from a weak alternative. This bolt-action rifle can secure a one-hit kill across practically any part of the body, making it a formidable choice for players who can land accurate shots.
Quickscoping is also a viable play style with the KG-7 Vulcan, continuing the series’ tradition of rewarding fast, close-range sniper aim.
Overkill is a valuable first perk because an automatic secondary weapon can be essential when an opponent closes the distance. Fast Hands is another useful choice, reducing the time needed to switch weapons.
Which beta weapon should you choose?
- M4: choose it for an adaptable rifle that can cover most ranges and modes.
- Kastov 762: use it when higher damage and clearer iron sights matter more than maximum accuracy.
- ISO Nightshade: pick it for aggressive close-range fights, particularly on Transit 213 and Silkworm.
- KG-7 Vulcan: select it for one-shot potential and a quickscoping-focused loadout.
The beta’s weapon balance may change, but these four guns provide a strong starting point for testing different play styles. If you are building a dedicated gaming area, RETROCADE’s arcade machine buying guide can help you plan the space and choose the right format.
