This weekend’s Steam shortlist covers a broad spread of PC gaming: demanding action, survival horror, an experimental MMO, a relaxing farming adventure and a substantial visual novel. Here are five new releases and early-access projects worth investigating.

Mortal Shell 2
The first Mortal Shell was a competent but conventional Soulslike that received broadly average reviews. Developer Cold Symmetry has addressed many of those limitations in Mortal Shell 2, which has been received much more warmly.
The sequel’s combat is more polished, while redesigned Shells give players greater freedom to shape their character and approach encounters. Its world is another strength, with memorable dungeons and an inviting map to explore. With few major action RPGs competing for attention beyond Nioh 3, this is a welcome choice for players who enjoy testing their timing and build-crafting skills.
The Sinking City 2
The Sinking City 2 also represents a significant step forward from its predecessor. The Lovecraft-inspired follow-up shifts decisively towards survival horror, a change that has helped it earn notably stronger reviews.
Its third-person shooting and oppressive exploration draw obvious inspiration from Capcom’s Resident Evil games. Set in 1920s Arkham, the adventure sends players through threatening streets and dark interiors populated by grotesque creatures. Horror fans who cannot fit it in immediately may want to keep it in mind for an October playthrough.
Stars Reach
Stars Reach is an ambitious indie MMO that entered early access this week. Its long-term goal is a shared galactic sandbox where players can build, explore and influence the worlds around them.
The project is designed as a reactive space simulation, with player decisions intended to create tangible effects on planetary ecosystems. The early-access build is still extremely early and contains bugs, so it is best suited to curious players comfortable with unfinished software. Even in its current state, the scale of the idea makes it worth a look.

Starsand Island
Those after something gentler should consider Starsand Island. This colourful farming game combines familiar life-simulation activities with fishing, relationships, animal ranching and light combat.

Its 3D presentation may appeal to players who enjoy the feel of Fields of Mistria but want a more fully realised three-dimensional setting.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot
Visual-novel fans have a major release to consider in Steins;Gate Re:Boot. This remaster marks the tenth anniversary of the 2016 Steins;Gate release and brings the game to modern platforms after its earlier PlayStation Vita availability.
Updated artwork, a refined interface and other presentation improvements give the classic a fresh look. The central attraction remains its unconventional time-travel narrative, while new story material expands the existing world. It is a sizeable commitment, but one that visual-novel enthusiasts should not overlook.
