Ghost Soldier trailer puts Jim Caviezel in high-tech action mode

Jim Caviezel steps into unfamiliar action territory in Ghost Soldier, a new thriller combining corporate revenge, military hardware and stealth technology. The first trailer presents a grounded community under threat, then adds the sort of futuristic equipment usually associated with tactical shooters such as Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Splinter Cell.

Caviezel, known for The Passion of the Christ and Sound of Freedom, plays Henry “Fitz” Fitzgerald. Rather than remaining a quiet bystander, Fitz takes on corporate enforcers using advanced weapons, specialist training and a distinctly uncompromising sense of justice. One of the trailer’s religiously flavoured lines has Fitz say, “God will judge our enemies; I’ll just arrange the meeting.”

A former Special Forces soldier faces a corporate land grab

The story centres on Brownstone Interworks, a Bahraini-owned conglomerate seeking control of a valuable plot of land. Its representatives threaten the local residents, including the parents and child of a deceased US military veteran, as the company attempts to secure the property for a major payday.

Fitz is described as an old-school green beret with advanced military training. He has withdrawn from the world and lives quietly, off the grid, in his hometown. When the pressure reaches his neighbours, his hidden past becomes the community’s best chance of survival.

When a powerful foreign corporation descends on his community determined to seize his and his neighbours’ land for a massive payday, Fitz takes action — he’s actually a former Special Forces soldier and advanced weapons developer. Armed with weapons no one has ever seen, a lifetime of lethal military training, and an unwavering code of justice, Fitz becomes the one thing his enemies never anticipated: a one-man war they can’t win.

Stealth gear meets old-fashioned action

The trailer gives Fitz an arsenal that includes a bow and arrow, sniper skills and explosives expertise. It also shows off an invisibility cloak and a night-vision mask, giving the film a visual connection to military stealth games and tactical arcade shooting games.

Its setup follows a familiar revenge-thriller pattern, with one highly capable protagonist confronting an organisation that has underestimated him. The tone sits alongside films such as John Wick, The Beekeeper, Nobody and The Equalizer, while the PG-13 rating suggests the violence will remain within a relatively restrained action-movie framework.

For viewers who enjoy comparing screen combat with games, RETROCADE’s arcade videos offer another way to explore the appeal of on-screen firepower, targeting and tactical spectacle.

Cast and crew

William Eubank directs Ghost Soldier from a screenplay by Chris Papasadero. Eubank previously directed Land of Bad and Underwater.

Shea Whigham appears alongside Caviezel, with Olivia Thirlby, Beau Knapp and Garret Dillahunt also part of the cast. Thirlby is known for Dredd, Knapp appears in Tulsa King, and Dillahunt can also be seen in HBO’s Lanterns.

The trailer’s mix of rural stakes, military expertise and speculative equipment makes Ghost Soldier an action release to watch for fans of tactical games and one-person-army films.
