Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 gets an October release date and a brutal new trailer
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will arrive on Netflix on 20 October 2026, giving fans of Studio Trigger’s acclaimed sci-fi anime a confirmed date for its return to Night City.
The announcement arrived alongside Netflix updates for several animated projects at Anime NYC. Along with the release date, viewers received a new trailer and teaser images for the 10-episode follow-up.
A new group facing Night City’s worst excesses
Rather than continuing the previous series’ character arcs, the sequel is designed as a standalone story with an entirely new cast. The trailer introduces Roman Carax, Weak “King” Kingsley, D and Talia Yang as they struggle through the futuristic dystopia.
Carax is a young film enthusiast with a fascination for analogue media. He documents disturbing events as the people around him begin to spiral. His recordings appear to provide the sequel’s viewpoint, turning the collapse of his peers into a grim visual record.
King is presented as a legendary edgerunner who is losing control while Talia lies in hospital. The trailer strongly suggests that he is experiencing cyberpsychosis. Carax also encounters D, a netrunner driven by revenge, whom he describes as the physical expression of grief and suffering.
The material shown so far points to another bleak story that is unlikely to soften Night City’s violence or emotional toll.
Studio Trigger returns for the 10-episode anime
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 was first announced at Anime Expo in July 2025. It shares its setting with CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, but the new plot and characters mean newcomers should be able to approach it as its own story.
Studio Trigger is returning to animate the series. Kai Ikarashi is directing, while Bartosz Sztybor is back as showrunner and Masahiko Otsuka returns to handle writing duties.
The first Cyberpunk: Edgerunners earned critical acclaim for its energetic animation, memorable cast and painful twists. The sequel therefore has a considerable standard to meet, although its early footage retains the grainy, VHS-inspired visual treatment associated with the franchise.
