A new alternate cover for Dragon Ball Super volume 19 gives fans their first possible glimpse of Vegeta’s mother—although her face remains hidden. The artwork comes from Toyotarou, now the manga’s sole mangaka following Akira Toriyama’s passing in 2024.
That reveal arrives almost 40 years after Vegeta first appeared in the series. On November 7, 1988, Prince Vegeta made his debut in chapter 10 of Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Z manga, “Farewell, Son Goku.” His popularity grew after the Saiyan Invasion arc in 1989, leading Toriyama to keep him as a permanent character and establish one of anime’s defining rivalries.
Readers have since met Vegeta’s father, King Vegeta, as well as his sons Trunks and Future Trunks, his daughter Bulla and his long-lost brother Tarble. His mother, however, has never been shown or meaningfully discussed.

In the new illustration, a reflection in the puddle beneath the foreground characters reveals a woman’s hair and clothing. King Vegeta’s cape blocks her face, making the image an incomplete introduction rather than a full character reveal.
The artwork was shared through the Official Site and was drawn by Toyotarou. It appeared after the official “My Favorite Cover Poll” concluded, and it is the second alternate version of the volume 19 cover.
The standard cover depicts Goku’s family alongside a mirrored image of his parents. The first alternate cover switches the focus to Gohan, with Goku and Chi-Chi shown in the reflected composition. Those earlier designs provide the clue for identifying the woman in the latest artwork.
On the previous covers, Chi-Chi’s mirrored counterpart is Gine, Goku’s mother, while Pan’s counterpart is Chi-Chi. The mirrored figures therefore represent the relevant characters’ mothers-in-law. Applying that pattern here makes Bulma’s counterpart Vegeta’s mother.
There is another supporting detail: the partially concealed woman wears clothing marked with the Vegeta Royal Family crest. Together, the reflection and the crest make this the clearest visual indication yet of Vegeta’s mother’s appearance.
Whether she will eventually appear properly in the manga remains unknown. The series is expected to continue at an undetermined point in the future, so there is currently no confirmed timing for a story appearance.
