Jean Grey is returning to the spotlight with a new five-issue Marvel Comics limited series, following the character’s confirmed Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Marvel revealed Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, alongside the current X-Men cast, during the D23 Expo. The comic announcement arrives as interest in the mutant heroes builds, with the first issue scheduled for 25 November 2026, after Marvel’s major DNX event.

Who is making Jean Grey?
The series, titled Jean Grey, will be written by Jed MacKay and drawn by Rogê Antônio. MacKay has been writing the main X-Men title since the 2024 From the Ashes relaunch, which began the post-Krakoa era.

Antônio recently illustrated the limited Cyclops series and also spent a short period working on the Jean-led X-Men Red run written by Tom Taylor. Marvel’s announcement has announced the project as a five-issue story rather than an ongoing title.

Jean’s journey back to Earth
This is not Jean Grey’s first solo comic in the current era. Stephanie Phillips wrote the ongoing Phoenix series for 15 issues at the beginning of the From the Ashes relaunch.

That series followed Jean as she travelled through space, assisted people in need and explored her cosmic identity. It also reintroduced her sister Sara Grey, a character who has an important role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Jean most recently made her return to Earth in this year’s X-Men Annual #1. MacKay has indicated that the post-DNX status quo will place both Jean and the X-Men in need of one another. He also said the timing is significant because Jean will be more visible to the public than she has been previously.

Jean and Scott’s relationship takes centre stage
The relationship between Jean and Scott Summers will be a major part of the limited series. Although the pair have been married for some time, Jean’s journeys through the cosmos have kept them apart.
MacKay has teased a clash between their approaches to leadership and problem-solving: Scott favours fortifications, while Jean is associated with building connections. Jean will also appear more regularly in MacKay’s ongoing X-Men series, where Cyclops currently leads the team.
When does Jean Grey launch?
Jean Grey #1 is due for release on 25 November 2026. The issue will follow the events of DNX and continue Jean’s transition from cosmic adventurer back to a central figure in the X-Men’s story.
