The Lantern of the Laughless Saint is a lo-fi tribute to the Xbox-era role-playing games associated with Morrowind. Its story begins when you wake on a mysterious island dominated by a huge tower.
The game’s Steam description asks players to confront human desire and decide what should be saved when the light beneath the world awakens. Its unusual visuals and unsettling gameplay clips have also helped it attract attention online.

Co-operative play is one of the project’s notable features, allowing players to experience its open-ended world together. The developer previously described a system where players can pick up or steal anything, kill any character and encounter NPC dialogue that changes in response to their actions.
Its progression system is designed around the idea that every skill can level up, echoing Morrowind. Extreme investment in a skill can also enable exaggerated movement, including jumping across the map and other unpredictable exploits. The developer discussed these features a few months ago.
