Fortnite’s next season leak is looking increasingly convincing
A brief in-game event and a new Sonic the Hedgehog comic have given fresh weight to a leaked piece of artwork for Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4. The image reportedly points to a season built around gaming icons, including several classic arcade characters.
The Chapter 7 Season 3 Unstable event has now altered the Battle Royale island. It lasted roughly four minutes, during which the Zero Point vanished and was replaced by an enormous game cartridge.
Water surrounding the cartridge at the centre of the map is visibly corrupted, while the cartridge itself displays the names of Sonic the Hedgehog, Pac-Man, Tetris and Mega Man.
Earlier teases had already suggested that most of those characters would be important to Fortnite Override. Mega Man was the notable exception: until now, the character had only appeared in leaked promotional posters.
A crowded cast of gaming legends
On 14 August, an apparent Chapter 7 Season 4 key-art image circulated online. Alongside the characters linked to the Unstable event, it showed Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, Ryu and Blanka from Street Fighter, plus other recognisable gaming figures.
The Fortnite community was divided on whether it was real or fake. The artwork appeared unusually detailed and included elements that had already leaked, such as the oversized cartridge. However, some details raised doubts, including unfinished-looking characters and a Pac-Man design missing its eyes.
Sonic crossover adds another clue
The case for the artwork strengthened the following day, when a Sonic the Hedgehog and Fortnite comic appeared at the Chaos Hunt fan event in New York City.
The comic’s cover shows Sonic and Shadow wearing armour and shoes that match the outfits in the leaked image. With Sonic now referenced both in the comic and through an in-game event, the artwork looks increasingly likely to be genuine, although it remains unconfirmed.
Final confirmation may be close
A trailer for the next season is scheduled to premiere on 16 August, meaning players may not have to wait long for a definitive answer. For now, the Unstable event and Sonic crossover make the Chapter 7 Season 4 leak appear substantially more credible than it did when the image first surfaced.
