Roblox is facing a bipartisan investigation by the United States Senate over allegations that children have been sexually abused and exploited through the platform. Senators Josh Hawley and Dick Durbin, working through the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, have written to founder and chief executive David Baszucki seeking answers about explicit content and reported links to real-world crimes.
Senators question Roblox’s safety claims
The senators’ letter challenges Roblox’s description of itself as a safe digital playground for children as young as five. It cites police investigations and arrests involving people accused of grooming, sexual abuse, kidnapping, rape and murder after meeting children through the platform.
“Children on your platform are hurting,” the letter says, warning that Congress will not ignore the alleged criminal activity.
The letter also alleges that Roblox has been used to exchange child sexual abuse material, create sexually explicit and sometimes violent virtual experiences involving children, and pressure young users into producing explicit material. It further claims that some children have been lured into face-to-face meetings.
Roblox reported 65,381 suspected child sexual exploitation incidents to the National Centre for Missing & Exploited Children in 2025. The figure was more than twice the number reported in 2024. The senators argue that the company may have placed revenue and engagement ahead of child safety and have requested a prompt, complete response from Baszucki.
