Fire bricks are needed for several important crafting recipes in Grounded 2, including the diving suit. That suit lets you explore the pond’s depths and reach the abyss area, but the game does not immediately explain how to unlock or produce fire bricks.

How to unlock the fire brick recipe
You must scan a piece of phantom quartz to reveal the fire brick recipe. This pink gemstone arrived with the “Into the Abyss” update and can be found beneath and around the dead oak tree in the Gnarly Bark region.
There is a sizeable amount of phantom quartz inside the hollow beneath the tree. The entrance is on the northeast side, close to one of the rubber duck points of interest.
Prepare for a fight before entering. Diving bell spiders occupy the water and can inflict venom. Several phantom quartz deposits are underwater, but swimming combat is restricted to a spear or a harpoon gun. To use the harpoon gun, you must first scan the pond jockey and build the weapon.
The land around the deposits is also dangerous. Pincher and whipper earwigs patrol the area, while striped bark scorpions are common near the oak. These behave much like northern scorpions but deal more damage, and O.R.C. variants have lasers on their stingers.
You also need a third-tier omni-hammer to break the quartz deposits. Once you have the upgraded hammer and are ready for the enemies, collect phantom quartz beneath the tree and take it to a ranger station for scanning. That scan unlocks the fire brick recipe.
How to craft fire bricks
Each fire brick requires the following:
- 4 chunks of clay
- 1 stack of crushed quartz
- An oven
Making crushed quartz
Crushed quartz is produced by putting phantom quartz into a quern. If you have not unlocked the quern, it becomes available automatically when your brainpower reaches level 11. Brainpower increases when you scan new items.

Finding the oven
The oven is separate from the station used to cook meals, which is called the cookery in Grounded 2. The oven functions as a kiln and is unlocked by collecting the Hedge Turbo Disk.
The disk is in the northeast corner of the Fire Pit region. Expect spider webs and a wolf spider guarding the area. You can travel there on foot or use your ant buggy, although the orb weaver buggy makes the trip easier.
Once the recipe is unlocked, phantom quartz has been processed into crushed quartz, and you have access to an oven, combine the listed ingredients to make your fire bricks.
