Attack on Titan ended its television run in 2023, but WIT Studio has given fans a reason to watch for another announcement. The studio says more information about an Attack on Titan-related project will arrive on 20 August.
The teaser uses deliberately mysterious language: “It seems that they, during ‘that period,’ will be holding a special dinner.” Its accompanying artwork features Eren, Armin, Mikasa, Levi, Hange and Erwin. The image credits Hajime Isayama, Kodansha and the Attack on Titan The Final Season Production Committee, which funded the 35-episode final-season project—formally released as two seasons and two specials.
Why the announcement is unexpected
The manga has already been fully adapted, and the anime’s conclusion was later presented as Attack on Titan The Movie: The Last Attack. That compilation brought together the final two specials and added an extra sequence, making another straightforward continuation seem unlikely.
WIT Studio is also an unusual source for new Attack on Titan news. It animated the first 59 episodes, before MAPPA became the series’ primary animation studio for the Final Season, produced from 2020 through 2023. Since leaving the series, WIT has worked on productions including Spy x Family and Ranking of Kings.
Could this be a prequel?
The timing makes more sense alongside comments made last year by producer Tetsuya Kinoshita. At the premiere of Attack on Titan – The Official Concert – Beyond the Walls World Tour, he said the team intended to keep making films like Last Attack, staging concerts and pursuing various game collaborations.
There is already another game-related release on the horizon: Attack on Titan 3 is scheduled for 10 December. However, no anime project had been officially announced when this teaser appeared.
The wording offers few firm clues. “Special dinner” could be a dark reference to the series’ recurring themes of cannibalism, while “that period” leaves the project’s setting unclear. The promotional image may point towards a prequel set before the Final Season, when all six pictured characters were still alive.
For now, the only confirmed detail is that WIT Studio plans to reveal more on 20 August. The nature of the project remains unknown.
What the teaser means for fans
Whether the announcement concerns a new anime, a film, a concert-related production or a game collaboration, it shows that the franchise is not being left behind after its television finale. Australian fans will need to wait until next Thursday for the clearer answer.
