Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls has been available for only a week, but players are already examining its files for clues about future downloadable characters. Arc System Works has officially confirmed Phoenix Cyclops as the first post-launch addition, with four new heroes planned for the game’s first year. The files may now point to several more names, although none has been confirmed.

Dataminers have reportedly found references to Doctor Strange, Wasp, Gambit, The Thing, Daredevil, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and Mr Fantastic. None appears in the launch roster, and the file names do not establish whether every character will eventually become playable.

If the references are accurate, the four members of the Fantastic Four could arrive together. That possibility fits the game’s 4v4 structure, which is tied to the quartet’s formation in the story mode. Doctor Strange, Gambit, Wasp and Daredevil would provide a more varied selection, bringing characters from different corners of the Marvel universe into the tag-team fighter.

Possible Tōkon DLC characters

  • Doctor Strange
  • Wasp
  • Gambit
  • The Thing
  • Daredevil
  • Invisible Woman
  • Human Torch
  • Mr Fantastic

It is not yet clear whether these characters will join an existing story team or simply be added as standalone fighters. That distinction could matter, particularly if the Fantastic Four occupy four separate DLC places rather than arriving as one connected group.

Marvel’s enormous character library makes roster debates inevitable. Doctor Strange may feel familiar to some players, while Wasp could be viewed as a less obvious choice than her partner Ant-Man. However, a line-up built only around the biggest names would leave little room for less-used heroes. A mixture of established favourites and underrepresented characters could give the roster more personality.

There is also no indication that all eight names will arrive quickly, or even that they will all become playable. Datamined files can represent early prototypes or long-term plans. Guilty Gear Strive previously contained references to characters who did not appear until several seasons later, so Arc System Works may be preparing content well ahead of release. Fans have pointed out that precedent when discussing the discovery.

Possible stages found in the files

The same data reportedly includes references to stages named Klyntar, Japan and Sanctum Sanctorum. Sanctum Sanctorum would be a particularly plausible setting if Doctor Strange is eventually added, but the stage references are unconfirmed too.

One notable omission is Thor. He is a major Avengers character, yet his name reportedly does not appear in the discovered files. Thor is also absent during the events of the game’s story mode, making his eventual inclusion an open question.
