Pokémon Bank is coming to an end
Players who have kept Pokémon in the Nintendo 3DS storage app should begin planning their transfer. The Pokémon Company will discontinue Pokémon Bank on 25 February 2027 at 7 p.m. PST, ending a service that has been part of the series’ digital ecosystem for more than a decade.
The closure was announced in a new blog post covering Pokémon Home, the newer service intended to replace Bank.
What Pokémon Bank does
Pokémon Bank launched in Japan in 2013 before arriving internationally in 2014. The Nintendo 3DS application works as a storage and transfer hub for Pokémon from compatible games on the handheld.
It originally required a subscription. However, the app became free for players who had downloaded it before Nintendo closed the 3DS eShop in 2023.
How to prepare for the shutdown
The recommended destination is Pokémon Home. Once a Pokémon moves from Bank to Home, it cannot be transferred back, so check your collection carefully before confirming the move.
- Review the Pokémon currently stored in Bank.
- Make sure you still have the systems, games and applications required for the transfer.
- Move important Pokémon to Home well before the February 2027 deadline.
- Remember that the process may involve several devices and older software that are no longer readily available.
Transfers between Bank and Home can be lengthy and complicated. Some players may find that the standard process is not possible because they no longer have the necessary hardware or software. Dedicated fans have developed alternative approaches, but those options require careful research.
Home storage is expanding
An October update will raise the Pokémon deposit limit for Home Premium Plan subscribers to 9,000 Pokémon. That increase should give eligible users more room as they consolidate collections from older games and services.

A difficult moment for long-time players
The announcement has prompted a subdued reaction from the community. Many players expected the 3DS service would eventually close, particularly after the eShop’s shutdown, but that expectation does not make losing another digital preservation option any easier.
