Kingdom Hearts fans have one chance to watch the D23 panel
After a surprise Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer appeared during a Nintendo Direct livestream two months ago, another possible update is now on the horizon.
Disney’s D23 fan expo will host a special panel celebrating 25 years of Kingdom Hearts. The anniversary celebrations officially begin in 2027, while this hour-long presentation brings together developers, voice actors and other people involved with the series.
The important detail for viewers is that the presentation is scheduled to stream live only. Square Enix says it will not be uploaded as a video on demand afterwards.

When and where to watch in Australia
The “Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts” panel will be broadcast on the Kingdom Hearts YouTube channel on Saturday, 15 August, from 7:30pm to 8:30pm EDT.
Australian viewers should check the equivalent local time before the broadcast. Because the stream is not expected to remain available afterwards, setting a reminder is the safest way to avoid missing it.
While you wait, RETROCADE readers can catch up on the latest arcade news and gaming coverage or browse the site’s arcade videos.

Who is appearing?
The panel’s guests include Nana Gadd from Disney and Pixar Games and Square Enix developer Tai Yasue. English-language voice actors Haley Joel Osment and David Gallagher will also take part. Osment has voiced Sora, while Gallagher has long performed the role of Riku.
Renée Johnson, Disney’s executive for Character Voices, is also listed among the participants. The official event listing describes the session as a look at how Disney, Pixar and Square Enix came together across the franchise.

“Join us for a journey through light and darkness as we commemorate 25 years of Kingdom Hearts,” Disney’s official description says.

Could Kingdom Hearts 4 appear?
The event has been presented as a behind-the-scenes discussion about making the games, rather than a confirmed showcase for the next instalment. However, Tai Yasue’s involvement has encouraged speculation that the panel could include another look at Kingdom Hearts 4.
Neither Disney nor Square Enix has confirmed that the game will feature. The anniversary theme could instead focus on the series’ history, creative process and characters.

What we know about Kingdom Hearts 4
Square Enix first announced Kingdom Hearts 4 at a 20th anniversary panel in 2022. News was scarce until a new trailer arrived in June 2026.
The June announcement confirmed a multiplatform release for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X. A new English-language trailer or release-date announcement would be a substantial way to close the D23 presentation, but there is no confirmation that either will happen.

A deliberately limited livestream
Disney says the Deep Dive session will “surprise and delight” Kingdom Hearts fans. That could mean fresh information about the next game, a retrospective on 25 years of development, or a conversation with Sora and Riku’s performers about the franchise’s complicated mythology.
For Australian fans, the takeaway is straightforward: the panel is an appointment viewing event. Tune in live to find out whether it delivers new information about Kingdom Hearts 4 or remains focused on the series’ past.
