Grand Theft Auto 6 is attracting buyers prepared to spend beyond its already debated $80 standard price. Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick says early pre-orders are currently leaning towards the $100 Ultimate Edition.

Premium buyers are leading the early demand
During an interview, Zelnick explained that the standard and Ultimate editions are not selling in equal numbers. Instead, demand is “skewing more to the premium edition”. He also cautioned that this may simply reflect the behaviour of the most enthusiastic players, who are more likely to pre-order well ahead of launch.

For Australian players weighing up a new gaming setup, the news is another reminder that major releases can quickly become part of a broader home entertainment purchase. RETROCADE’s arcade news and gaming coverage explores the wider industry, while an arcade machine buying guide can help when comparing dedicated hardware for the games you already play.
What comes with the $100 Ultimate Edition?
When asked what customers receive for the higher price, Zelnick described it simply as “additional content”. The official pre-order information provides more detail: the Ultimate Edition includes exclusive cosmetic items and one free month of GTA+, the subscription service that offers benefits in GTA Online.

Take-Two wants the price to feel worthwhile
Zelnick has acknowledged that Take-Two has considerable pricing power with such a highly anticipated release. However, he said the company wants the purchase to represent relative value and does not want consumers to feel that the game is beyond their budget.
He described the $80 standard edition as an “incredible bargain” during an earlier Take-Two earnings call. His broader point was that the quality of the experience and the amount paid for it work together to shape how customers judge the purchase.
GTA 6’s sales expectations remain measured
Take-Two expects GTA 6 to perform extremely well, but Zelnick is avoiding a direct repeat of Grand Theft Auto 5’s extraordinary commercial history. The 2013 game has sold more than 200 million copies since release, yet he said he would never project that the new title will achieve the same result.

The launch is scheduled for 19 November on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Players considering a dedicated gaming space can also browse RETROCADE’s arcade machines, compact bartop arcades and racing simulators for different ways to build out a home setup.
