Starbreeze Entertainment is taking its cooperative bank-heist game series, Payday, to television. The studio has not announced a release date, broadcaster or streaming service, but Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson will serve as an executive producer, as reported by Variety.
G-Unit joins the Payday adaptation
Jackson’s G-Unit Film & TV will develop the series alongside Starbreeze Entertainment and Vice Productions. The production company brings relevant experience from Power, the crime-drama franchise it produced for Starz, in which Jackson has also appeared as a leading character.
Starbreeze CEO Adolf Kristjansson said the partnership suited the series’ larger-than-life approach to criminal fantasy. “Payday has always been about the fantasy of getting away with it. Curtis and G-Unit don’t do subtle, and neither do we,” he said in the announcement.
Can television capture a Payday heist?
The adaptation will shift the focus from building a drug empire in Power to organising bank robberies in Payday. A key challenge will be translating the games’ unpredictable cooperative heists to a scripted format. The series could embrace that chaotic energy, or take a more serious crime-drama direction.
The television project arrives as Starbreeze continues looking beyond the main games. After Payday 3 had a difficult launch in 2023, the franchise has continued with a virtual-reality project, Payday Aces High, scheduled for release later in 2026. The VR title and television series form part of a broader plan to expand the Payday franchise.
