Final Fantasy XIV players on Nintendo Switch 2 have received an emergency update aimed at the version’s troublesome loading times. Early player reports indicate that loading is now noticeably quicker, with dungeon revivals and Crescent Isle loading receiving particularly significant improvements.

Emergency maintenance targets serious Switch 2 bugs

The update followed emergency maintenance for a problem that could leave the screen permanently black during dungeon battle transitions. The same issue could also occur when attempting to revive a player who had been knocked out. The fix appears to have resolved that problem while also improving loading performance.

Player reports shared on social media describe shorter loading times on Switch 2, including faster transitions after reviving characters and when entering Crescent Isle.

Touch-control problems have also been fixed

The patch addresses two further issues affecting Switch 2 players using touch controls. In dungeons, the game could incorrectly identify a touch-control user as inactive and remove them from the instance. Touch targeting in a Gold Saucer shooting mini-game was also malfunctioning.

Those glitches are included in the emergency fix. Switch 2 mouse controls remain available for playing FFXIV, but the update does not appear to resolve the lag reported when using that control method.

Other fixes are included

The emergency hotfix also corrects several problems unrelated to the Switch 2 release. Square Enix has published the complete patch notes here.
